Getting Your Child Involved in Lacrosse

Lacrosse has quickly become one of the fastest-growing youth, high school and college team sports for both boys and girls in America. Lacrosse embodies all that other sports strive for – speed, athleticism, skill, heart and determination – but with cool gear that captures young men and women nationwide.

Native American communities used the game of Lacrosse as a training ground for warriors for thousands of years; today it is played by over two million people in both North America and Latin America as an enjoyable way of exercising their bodies and minds. Many describe Lacrosse as being similar to both football and soccer and it has quickly become one of the most beloved sports among both genders.

Lacrosse is both physically demanding and technically complex sport, making it a demanding technical game to master. There are numerous rules that must be observed to ensure safety and fair play for all. Players must wear protective equipment like helmets, gloves, mouth pieces and chest protectors in order to protect themselves when being hit by balls or sticks – the most frequent injuries being concussions and broken bones.

Another important element of soccer is understanding all of its positions, particularly goalkeeper. Goalkeepers are responsible for stopping balls from going into their own net while simultaneously defending their area well, while there are also defensemen, midfielders and attackers whose roles include passing the ball and shooting goals with crosses (sticks used to pass ball around the pitch).

Players must understand the proper way to hold their sticks when competing, with one hand placed at the base of the shaft while another rests higher up – this technique, known as cradling, helps prevent opponents from knocking the ball away when running with it.

Face offs and power plays are also significant aspects of the game, serving to start or restart it when two opposing players meet at center field and fight over possession of the ball. A power play allows a team with more players on its roster to gain an advantage against its opposition.

Engaging your child in lacrosse can provide them with an invaluable opportunity to develop teamwork, self-esteem and coordination skills while improving balance and endurance. However, everyone develops at different rates so it is important to remember that everyone develops at different rates; some children may struggle with focus for long periods while other may enjoy the sport more than others – it is therefore crucial that before making this decision it takes into account your child’s personality before proceeding with participation in lacrosse or any other sport.
